Fixed metal braces
Metal braces are a more traditional orthodontic treatment and more competitively priced than cosmetic braves.
Fixed cosmetic braces
Cosmetic braces are ceramic offering a clear alternative to metal braces, allowing the natural look of your teeth to shine through. Made from a translucent glass material, the brackets neither stain nor discolour, maintaining their original appearance all the way through to the end of treatment.
Self Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces offer a unique system that eliminates the need for elastic or metal ties and reduces friction. This means that the applied forces are lighter and the appliance requires less frequent adjustment. Furthermore, the appliances are easier to keep clean and it is possible to treat more problems without the need for tooth removal.
The Damon System uses different technology; a slide mechanism replaces the usual wire brackets and elastics, which leads to quicker treatment times, more comfortable braces and a system that can exert stronger forces on teeth that are out of position. The ceramic and stainless steel parts are aesthetically less obvious, making the treatment better for those who are concerned about wearing braces.
There is an increasing demand for the almost invisible braces for patients who feel unable to wear visible appliances for either professional or social reasons. They are also becoming increasingly popular with older teenagers.
Lingual appliances are placed on the inside surface of the teeth, making them almost invisible. They work in the same way as conventional braces, just placed the other way round. They can take a little longer to get use to them, but they do provide an option for patients who, for whatever reason, do not want anyone to know they are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
Incognito™ Lingual System
Incognito™ is a new generation of braces for people of all ages. As the name suggests, no-one will know you are wearing them unless you tell them. They are created using state of the art CAD-CAM technology and are completely customised to each patient and the prescribed treatment.

Advantages of wearing Lingual Braces:
Invisible from the front (hidden behind the teeth)
Effective for all treatments
Aligners (clear braces) will gradually move your teeth into an aligned position through the use of clear plastic trays that fit snugly over your teeth. Rather than having wires tighten every few weeks you will receive a new aligner tray to wear until your treatment is complete. You need to wear your aligners at all times during treatment apart from when eating, brushing or flossing teeth so you can still enjoy the food and drinks you like.
There are a number of aligner systems available to support you achieving a straighter smile including;
Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of almost invisible, removable aligners bespoke designed for your teeth. As you replace each aligner every two weeks, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week, gradually moving towards the projected final position.
A-List Dentistry provide a dedicated Invisalign treatment coordinator who will be able to offer you the best advice and any questions you might have, giving you a clearly defined Treatment Plan. They will show you what your teeth might look like during and after the treatment with ClinCheck – our virtual 3D treatment plan. Should you wish to book a complimentary consultation please do not hesitate to contact one of our team today!
ClinCheck shows the projected movements that your teeth might go through over the course of the treatment. This will enable you to see what your teeth are expected to look like when the treatment is complete, monitoring the changes through the course.
The Inman Aligner is the ideal solution for crowding or protrusion of the front teeth. It is efficient, very safe and great value. With the patented Inman Aligner, your front teeth can be gently guided to an ideal position in a matter of weeks. Most cases complete in 6-18 weeks and because it’s removable you can take it out to fit with your lifestyle.
The Inman Aligner offers Nickel Titanium coil springs that power two aligner bows that gently oppose each other, guiding the teeth into their new position. These gentle forces are active over a very large range of movement, which is why the Inman Aligner works so quickly.
The image below shows the squeeze effect of the two aligner bows on the front teeth. The inner bow pushes forwards, while the outer bow pulls back on the front teeth.
Removable braces are sometimes used to correct bite problems and also influence the growth of the jaws in children (age 11-16). Timing and skill in the use of removable braces is essential for success so your dentist will discuss the options with should your child require any orthodontic treatment.
Although removable braces can be removed from the mouth by a patient, they will only work if worn as prescribed.
More sophisticated removable appliances are available to teenagers and adults.
Once the orthodontic treatment is complete your braces will be removed. The next step is called retention, which simply means keeping the newly aligned teeth in position through the aid of a retaining devise until your bone, gums, and muscles adapt to the new teeth positions.
You must wear your retainer as instructed, otherwise your teeth could revert back to their original positions and the benefit of wearing your braces will be lost. We will determine how long you might need to wear your retainer, as the time frame can vary with each patient; in some cases, permanent retention may be necessary or advisable. In these instances, thin metal wires are attached to the inside surfaces of the anterior teeth either in addition to or instead of removable retainers.
A-List Orthodontics offer the following retainers:
Fixed Metal Retainers
Essix ACE Clear Retainers
Invisalign Vivera Clear Retainers
The retention period is an important part of your overall treatment and should not be neglected. Retainers work best when you follow our instructions:
Clean after every meal
Clean all parts with a brush
Handle with care
Retainers are easy to lose; if you take them out put them in their retainer case for safe keeping.
